A holiday has been announced by the state government on 31 July 2023. Now on July 31, along with all government and non-government schools, government banks and all kinds of government and non-government offices will remain completely closed.
This holiday has been announced by the state government regarding the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, although this holiday has been kept only in Sangrur district of Punjab state, but it is being told that in the next one or two days this holiday will be announced across the state. Apart from the great warriors who took part in the freedom struggle of the country, Udham Singh, born in Vidhansabha Halke Sunam of Sangrur district of Punjab, was martyred while participating in this freedom struggle. After which martyrdom day of Udham Singh is celebrated. Every year it is celebrated in Sunam area of Sangrur district and on this occasion Punjab state level convention is organized in Sangrur district.
To participate in this event, a holiday is declared in all government and non-government departments of Sangrur district as well as schools and banks. Under this tradition, a government holiday has been declared on 31 July 2023 this year as well.
