— Condemns AAP govt for first betraying the popular mandate by dissolving panchayats

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded the immediate resignation of chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Panchayati Raj minister Laljit Bhullar for murdering grass root democracy by dissolving panchayats even as it thanked the Punjab and Haryana high court for forcing the government to take back this decision.
At a press conference here by the senior Shiromani Akali Dal leadership, senior leader Balwinder Singh Bhundur appreciated the role played by youth Akali leader Gurjit Singh Talwandi who had filed a PIL against the dissolution of the panchayats.
Mr Bhundur and Prof Chandumajra also highlighted how the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government first betrayed the popular mandate by dissolving panchayats six months before their term was to end and then insulted its members by virtually calling them robbers by saying this was being done to save Rs 1,000 crore accumulated with them from being misappropriated.
Akali Dal Leader Prof Chandumajra said the AAP government had gone berserk. “First it got into a fight with the constitutional head of the State – the Governor. Then it targeted the bureaucracy by suspending senior IAS officials for decisions taken by the chief minister and the Panchayati Raj minister. Now it has invoked ESMA on government employees”.
Misappropriate Rs 1,000 crore accumulated with the panchayats : Akali Dal
Youth Akali Dal leader Gurjit Singh Talwandi while speaking on the occasion, said the AAP government dissolved panchayats within two days of the visit of a central team to assess the damage caused by floods in the State. He said this was done so that the government may usurp flood relief compensation. Gurjit Singh Talwandi said the government even appointed its favourites as Administrators of clusters of panchayats to misappropriate Rs 1,000 crore accumulated with the panchayats.
He said this was done despite the fact that every single panchayat gets to gain only Rs 7 lakh if the Rs 1,000 crore is distributed equally among them.

Five member delegation would leave for Manipur to assess the situation
Meanwhile Akali Dal senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema announced that a five member delegation would leave for Manipur to assess the situation in the strife torn State and interact with the victims of communal violence. He also explained that the SAD had always stood for simultaneous elections to both parliament and State assemblies. “We supported this move when the Law Commission invited suggestions on this issue in 2018 and then again in 2023. He said the move if implemented would bring in stability and would be a pro development step.
